My two cents worth
Louisville is a great town. Wonderful quality of life...great schools (both public and private)...very nice and accepting populous(tolerant)....fairly diverse as well....lots to do all year round.... and great established communities. It's a place where you can let your hair down partying until 4:00 in the morning and still make it to Church by 11:00.
As a native, however, I have to disagree with an earlier post. It's pronounced "Louie" ville. Not really sure how the other "lou uh vull" pronunciation got started although it may have been because some thought "Louie" sounded too hick. City was named after King Louie the 16th of France.

The reason I put that in the post is because most of the people I have met here have pronounced it ''Lou-uh-vull''. Most of the time I hear "Louie" ville has been from sports broadcasters during b-ball games. I guess disagreements like these (how to pronounce it) is why they put signs like these downtown.
Although "Lewisville" is only used by those who have no clue on how to pronounce it :-)

Louisville
I'd like to visit Louisville also. It is the home of legendary pro wrestling manage Jim Cornette and the home of the band My Morning Jacket.

Interracial Dating
To add a little enlightment regarding your search, the most diverse areas in Louisville would be Fern Creek, Buechel and some parts of the east end/Ford plant area. In my opionion, Louisville has it's problems of segregation. Don't be fooled, it's not as intergrated as some people might believe.

I would have to agree that the Highlands is the most diverse place in all of KY. But as most have said interracial dating is widely accepted in the Louisville area. I am African-American and have several friends of all races who date interracially. I would say some of the more non-accepting areas would be Fairdale, Valley Station (slowly changing). The Iroquois Park/New Cut area is also a very diverse area with beautiful homes.

Hello,to answer your question on racial intolaence, i would consider Jeffersonville In just 5 minutes across from Louisville. You will never find a place more mixed families than Jeffersonville,In. My wife and I are both black but when we moved here from louisville 9 years ago we just fell in love with the atmosphere here. I am a deacon at my church and we have the largest mixed couples congregation. I love southern Indiana and would highly suggest that you come across the bridge to Inidana to see for yourself.
God Bless

Terrence is correct, I meant to mention Jeffersonville in my last post. I don't know about anyone else, but in my social circle Jeffersonville/Clarksville is "known" (if you will) for their mixed couples. I live in Louisville, but just in passing through J'ville or C'ville shopping, etc.....you notice the abundance of mixed couples in that area. Even when I was younger (I'm 33), when interracial dating was slowly gaining acceptance, mixed couples were plentiful in southern IN. Not only does it seem to be more prevalent, it doesn't seem to draw as many stares as couples may encounter in parts of Louisville. This is not to deter you from Louisville, just providing you with some other options. I have several friends who date outside their race. When I have been in public with them (and their mates), we have never encountered any noticeable staring or intolerance. This is not to say that it does not exist, just that I have not experienced it firsthand.
