Thank you so much for all the information. We actually live a stones throw from Sugar Land so your comparison to that area of Houston really helped. We will be moving to an apartment first since we are still trying to sell our house in Texas, but hopefully while "stuck" in an apartment for a couple of months we can check out all these areas. I am sure we will find some place that is perfect for us. We CAN'T WAIT to get back to the Midwest.

By the way . . . can you provide any other "info" regarding living in Kentucky/Louisville that we should be prepared for. We were really caught off guard with the property taxes down here (anywhere from $4,000 - $15,000 per year) not to mention the increased cost of car and home owners insurance. We were also really caught off guard with the "insect/cockroach" situation down here (cockroaches as big as your head) YUCK!

Just had to giggle about the "insect" remark! We lived in Houston 25 years ago, and I will NEVER forget the flying roaches that we found in our townhome the day we moved in! Thankfully, none of those here in Kentucky!

If only my subdivision was in Oldham Cty, it would be perfect for you - it has all the amenities you mentioned - pool, clubhouse, playground, tennis, lots of kids, and great location. Alas, we are in Jefferson County, so there is the school situation to deal with. I am sure you can find what you are looking for in Oldham, though. Good luck!

I remember the giant flying roaches in Georgia years ago when we were stationed in Fort Stewart! OMG---I thought I would have a heart attack the first time one went flying. I didn't know they could do that!

Thank you to everyone that posted responses to my request. Unfortunately, we will NOT be relocating to Louisville after all. My husband turned down the job and is now considering another job. We will actually NOW be looking at suburbs outside of Pittsburgh.

Thanks again for all the assistance.

Good luck, jknapieralski! I know how nerve-wracking this can be!
