Default passing through looking for a place to stay the night

Hi All-

We'll just be driving through on our way to NC, traveling with our two year old. Can anyone recommend a place to stay? If Louisville has a downtown that'd be fun so we could take a nice stroll through the town's streets and check out the sites.

Or, a hotel with a pool for the kiddo would be good too.

Open for any suggestions.

Thanks for any input.

Holiday Inn on East Broadway & I-65 would be most economical bet. Still in downtown area, and not really in a "bad" area but some shady character can lurk around after 10:00pm so just be cautious. I'm not sure if there's a swimming pool (I just know I've stayed the night there after partying.)

The Galt House, while more expensive (nearly $100-120/night, normally,) is your best bet if you want to stay in the very heart of downtown and not at all worry about safety. Two towers, east and west, each 20-22 stories high, the complex has recently undergone a $100 million renovation, and there are swimming pools. Downtown Louisville might well be the safest part of the old city limits.

If you're passing through for the evening, then this time of year all that there will be to do that's family-friendly are the Belvedere (above and adjacent to the hotel, Waterfront Park (just east of the Belvedere) and the Louisville Science Center/IMAX.

I don't believe the Louisville Slugger Museum, Muhammad Ali Center, and Frazier Museum are open past 7pm; the Louisville Bats baseball club is not in season right now (although they will be in just a couple of weeks, check their website for more info.)

21C and its art gallery is a bit too pretentious and boring for the kiddos. 4th Street Live! (a must see, by the way!) is fine but only those over 21 can stay after 10pm.

So, if you're just passing through for the night, you have enough to keep entertained.
