Default Drinks culture?

Is there a drinks culture amongst the young in Louisville?

In the UK the drinks culture is such a part of life that it is normal, ie LOTS of the 18-25's (but other age groups too) go out on an evening purely to get drunk resulting in lots of drunken behaviour and associated problems.

Is it the same over there? What do this age group do entertainment wise?

except the drinking age is 21, but that doesn't stop a lot of people, it might as well be 18 IMO.

I have heard that people over there tend to go to the pub several times a week, most people I know who drink save it for the weekends.

I am really surprised by your replies, I honestly did not think you guys had the same problem, well not to anywhere near the same degree anyway. It is something that is not portrayed in the UK media or on the 'many' US police and hospital programmes that are shown over here. In the US programmes we might see the odd stab victim and often a gunshot victim appears but the drunks don't seem to put in much of an appearance!
By contrast our 'reality' police and hospital tv programmes regularly feature the drunks. Either getting locked up for being drunk and disorderly, fighting, peeing in the streets (and thats the women!) or being abusive to NHS staff/police. Tbh they generally have a starring role!!
Still shocked! LOL

There are tons of reality police shows here like "Cops" and "Disorderly Conduct" that always show either people getting pulled over for DUI's or drunk in public citations. MTV has a reality show called "Busted" and all it is about is teens getting caught driving drunk or getting caught drinking underage.

...same here in Ohio. Friday & Saturday Nights are it (except here in Dayton "Thursday is the New Friday"...but thats more for live music venues). The drinking age is, apparently, more strictly enforced in Ohio and closing time is 2 AM, not 4 AM like in Louisvillle. It used to be the other way around, where Ohio permitted beer drinking for 18 year olds, which meant quite a bar scene at bridgehead towns across the river from KY (like Aberdeen across from Maysville).

Louisville tends to be the big bon temps roulez party town for the region, with a fairly robust nightlife scene, or so it seems.
