Im from the chicago metor area I have no idea what part of Loisville is good or bad,I know I have seen some rough parts just passing through. I know the city has to a have a part where I could get a 4br home for a 155k in nice school district?? You can almost get that in the metro Chicago area and the cost of living is cheaper. Anybody get me looking in the right direction,maybe even in outskirt,I had thhought about Etown but thats a half hour I was worried about being an outsider there being from the metro Chicago area?? So I was thinking Louisville would be a good fit maybe still have a country feel yet have city to where do I look thanks everyone

Public or Private schools? Louisville/Jefferson County is one of the largest school districts in the nation. It is a diverse urban district, but tons better than Chicago schools and also much smaller, although very large (I am a native of the north side so I can speak to this)

(I question some of these numbers because I think JCPS is closer to 100,000 students now).
If you want country, Louisville is not for you. It is a city in the light of a Milwaukee, only more hip IMO.
The best suburban school district is Oldham County, KY. Floyd County, IN also has great public schools. However, the best PUBLIC schools in the region are in Louisville, only they are hard to get into. The BEST schools in the region are private, parochial, Catholic schools. If interested, I have several recs for K-8 and private high schools.
Just curious, how have you seen some "rough parts of the city" just passing through? Being from Chicagoland you must know that it is nearly impossible to judge a city from the freeway.

Oxymoron=live in the best areas of Louisville, good chance your kid will go to one of the six lowest scoring high schools in Kentucky. Live in worst areas of Louisville equal chance your kid will go to one of the 3 highest scoring high schools in Kentucky.
Live in Oldham County, guaranteed that your child will go to one of three of the top 15 high schools in Kentucky.
The elementary and middle schools that feed the high schools are similar in statistical results.
The opportunity for $155,000 4 bedroom home will be better in Jefferson County simply because of numbers over 40 years of age. Remember, there are few 4 bedroom homes built 1945-1985 which is where most of the homes priced $140-175,000 will have been constructed.

I need a 4 br about 2000 sq ft I wouldn't mind a suburb feel not total city not real country. I dont where to look ya know I just don't want to be in a town where everyone knows grew up together and looks at outsiders weird ya know. Schools are key,and crime rate.. I was in Louisville a few years back i was in E town I drove north so im thnking it was the southside of Loiusville it was run down,and im from Chicago im not afraid but it was not an area I would even want to pump gas at ha!!! Oldham county people are sayng and where else that way i can find a realtor I need a rental home if mine dosent sell.. 4Br going to be hard to find huh?? Anyhelp be great.

Anywhere off of I-265 or I-264 east of I-65 would be fine. You would probably like Middletown or Jeffersontown.

If you want to be out of the city more look at LaGrange in Oldham Co. or Shelbyville in Shelby Co. There are lots of new builds in both these towns and you could easily find one in your price range and over 2000 sq. ft. Both these cities are 25-30 minutes from downtown Louisville, which is about 20 minutes closer than Etown.

I keep hearing about oldham county and area around Louisville like I say im looking for a good school system nothing real small as far as towns go. i dont want a town that everybody grew up and know each other,and dont like outsiders. Me coming from the north even more. I dont know where to look I love Etown but Louisville is closer to chicago wwhere I have family. i'm lookinmg somewhere I can afford with good schools any recomadtion would help.

M, your worries about OC are unfounded. It's a very open and welcoming county. In 1970, there were about 15,000 people in OC, today there are almost 60k. Nearly everyone here is now an immigrant. This county's population is one of the most genuine mixing pots. People of all faiths, races, even economic stati blend here with peace harmony and mutual respect. Why? Its because of the educational levels they bring and the education they demand for their children.
