Default Moving to Louisville area by August 1st, from Michigan

My job is relocating me anywhere between Indianapolis and Louisville (my choice). I am looking for an area where there are lots of outdoor actives, like hiking, camping, fishing. Sounds as if Lexington and east of there would be more fitting, but am unable to go that far east. I will be renting an apartment or home, for my girlfriend and me, we are both in our late 20's. We are just scared and would like to at least enjoy our surroundings if we have to move. Rural is fine, don't need to be downtown. Any help with be greatly appreciated!

I would consider either Brown County Indiana, or the Madison Indiana area.

Both good choices. I would also look at Washington County and Harrison County, IN.

How close do you want to be to the city? The knob country of Floyd County is STUNNING and so close to the major amenities of Louisville, yet completely rural and close to rivers and lakes and the Hoosier National Forest. Also, in Northen Clark County, IN, you have Deam Lake, and some beautiful country up river.

being close to louisville would also put you very close to jefferson memorial forest and all of the great outdoorsy things there are there. it's one of the largest urban parks in the country. (it's not really urban though).

If you like to cycle, the Bloomington area is excellent. They host the Hilly 100 in the fall every year and there are excellent country roads with rolling (and sometimes challenging) hills.
