Is it crazy for a 38 year old single woman to move to Pewee Valley?
I am relocating from Los Angeles this summer. I'm moving to Louisville because I need a change, and I want to live in a beautiful environment with 4 seasons and have a more relaxed and down to earth way of life. I may also be attending graduate school at U of L. I do not know anyone in Louisville and my closest family will be a 4 hour drive away. I will buy a house in the 200-300K range. I thought Saint Matthews would be best for me because it's close to everything, including school, and I loved all the neighborhoods I've seen. I've also visited Hunting Creek in Prospect - I love the trees and more country feel but I need a fenced yard for my dog and the homes seemed too large for me. Now I'm thinking that I might like Pewee Valley because it has the country feeling I'm looking for, while not being too far away from amenities in St. Matthews. I love St Matt, but I'm concerned about not having more space between me and my neighbors etc. If I move to Pewee Valley, will I regret being so far out and 20 miles from school - especially in the winter? Is this area too isolated for a single person that doesn't know anyone? I'm a quiet person, an introvert, and I'm not into nightlife. I do, however, want to make friends and be involved in activities! Your input is appreciated.

No, its not crazy! My wife has lived in western Oldham County (Pewee Valley is in far SW OC) for 25 years. During that time, she has attended UL, received her degree, and all the time managed a full time career (now HR director of a 700+ firm), went through the tragic death of her husband to cancer, survived cancer herself, and gave me the greatest gift ever by meeting me and allowing me to take on the challenge of being worthy of her love.
We raise chocolate labs and have a 2200 square ft home in Briar Hill, (est 250-275,000). We are 20 minutes to the center of everything whether it be shopping, theaters, movie houses, excellent restaurants, arts, and education.
So, I think you would be crazy not to consider Pewee Valley and/or Crestwood-Oldham County.

You might want to also consider Middletown. It is a little closer to the city and restaurants/grocery stores/shopping than Pewee Valley is. There are some very nice homes and neighborhoods there and I think you might like it. Its far enough out where you can be in the country in 10 minutes but close enough where you could be in St. Matthews in 10 minutes.

You'll like KY - we located from LA last year after having lived in So. Cal our whole lives. We live in Hunting Creek. There is a darling town home on Autumn Hill Court that is for sale in your price range.
Tons of people have dogs here - they are required to have invisable fences. Dogs learn within a week or two not to leave the yard and this method works beautifully.
We are right on the edge of Oldham County.
Here is a link to the houses that are for sale in Hunting Creek that are $300,000 and lower:
Semonin Realtors
We have great shopping here in Prospect - it is a great place to live - here is a link ot the city web page and you can look at the list of businesses located within the city http://www.prospectky.com/
We are also close to the Summit Shopping Center (it is a beautiful outdoor shopping center made for walking - very much like California shopping = here is a link:
The Summit Louisville - Home
It takes me 20 minutes or less to get to St. Matthews

Hello... I'm considering a relocation to the area and your comment caught my eye. Why invisible fences? For aesthetic qualities? Are regular fences prohibited? I've got a "runner" and one of my hopes would be to find a rental (for the first year anyway) where I can let him out in a (regular) fence. Thank you!

Of course, depending on the size yard, number of trees, etc, $60-75 per mow.

I love the Pewee Valley area and live about 5 miles from the center of town. It's still a fairly rural area with a small-town feel, but you're just an easy 10 or 15 minute ride (at most) to lots of great groceries, movie theaters, book stores, etc. Close to Middletown on one side and the Westport Road/Springhurst areas on the other.
A very desirable area, imo.
