Default What is Shelbyville like?

Howdy,

We've finally got a move date for coming on down, the end of August! Woo-hoo! After reading this forum for a year it's hard to believe. Anyways, we've been looking at property around Shelbyville, and were wondering if we could get a few people's opinions on what the town is like. Is it a major town? If you live in the area do you shop in Shelbyville or drive to L'ville (or Frankfort)? Does it feel like a city or small town? It looks more varied than L'ville on the demographic stats, in experience is that true? Are there lots of young families? High speed available on the outskirts of town? and anything else you'd care to share.

Thanks much in advance,
Katherine

Shelbyville is not a major town by any stretch of the imagination, unless you think Mayberry is major! The population is only around 10,000.

To me, it's nothing more than a pit stop on the way to somewhere much nicer. It's mostly a collection of fast food joints and strip malls. I'll try and find something nice to say about it, but I'm not a fan.

It does have an annual horse show that is well attended. So if you like horses, it is in horse country. I think Claudia Sanders Dinner House is a decent smörgåsbord-type restaurant, but they did have a health issue recently. Old Stone Inn is a good place to get a nice meal.

And that's about it. I mean, if you go to their Chamber of Commerce page and look for things to do and see, almost every single item is not in Shelbyville, but in the surrounding towns like Louisville or Frankfort or Bardstown. So if their own Chamber of Commerce can't think of anything to say, neither can I! And if you think I'm kidding, here it is:
