Moving to Shelbyville Ky (Lexington, Louisville: co-op, how much, house)

Me and my girlfriend are moving to shelbyville from lexington. We just graduated college and both got jobs in Louisville. We've looked at a few nice places but have questions about some things.

Form driving around it seems as if everyone in Shelby County has a dish. Is this the cheapest way to go for cable? Is insight offered in Shelbyville? Who do most people get internet through?

Also I was wondering about Gas, electric and water cost around their? For a town home or duplex how much do you think electric, gas or water would be?

Any info would be of great help!

Have some respect, please. I won't tolerate that stuff here. If you are young...why are you choosing to live in exurbia? You should strongly consider the city where young professionals live. If you prefer more of a suburban type environment, you would enjoy St. Matthews. Many young post grad females enjoy Camden Oxmoor and Waterford Place apartmemts.

However, I would look hard at living downtown or the Highlands. You will feel like you are in a much larger city compared to Lexington.

Cat, ya got my vote. It depresses me that your attempt to help was met with such animosity. Our young people are simply bitter. Rather than busting your chops for encouraging them to be better, I wish that they could have simply replied, "Oh, yes, you are right. Thanks for doing more than either my parents or teachers did. I'm out close to the Shelby County line and we use Insight Communication for both cable and internet. I'm pretty happy with it, to be honest -- very fast internet, fairly reasonable prices, outstanding customer service. Not sure if they are all the way out to Shelbyville, however.

I also wonder if you might not be happier in the Bardstown Road area. Lots going on for young people out there. If you want more rural, I understand.

To answer your questions, dish is often the only option in rural areas. Cable is too expensive to run to every house when only a few will sign up. Cable is offered in Shelbyville (along hwy 60) but not in the more rural areas. Dish/Direct cost runs from ~$40-$80 depending on the plan.

For gas and electric, any Co-Op is going to be less than bigger cities. Costs can range from ~$75-$200 /month depending on the size of house and season. Natural gas is like cable and often not available in more rural areas. Propane is an alternative to natural gas but will normally end up costing more than straight electricity.

For rural areas that have septic systems, water is a less than in cities (that charge sewer costs). For water (without sewer), plan on ~$20 to $30 /month.

Well we found a really nice house in Shelbyville and for the price I don't think we can pass it up. I've looked into the cable and internet and insight does have service out in Shelby county. I think I'm going to look into that rather than dish?
