Direct TV (Louisville, Crestwood: HOA, new house, neighborhood)

Can anyone give me some honest feedback on the quality of Direct TV reception in Crestwood? Obviously, it varies somewhat with the specific location of a home, but i was just wondering in general about the quality of service, how often a signal is lost, how often the signal is weak, etc.

Please, honest feedback only...i'm not looking for someone following the corporate line, or someone holding a grudge.

I'm from Michigan, and i'm a big fan of east coast sports as well as northern sports. unfortunately, i can't find much in the way of baseball and hockey coverage down here. Direct TV seems to offer a wider range in those areas.

A lot of people in Oldham County have DirectTV or Dish. I don't know if its because cable isn't offered in all parts of Oldham County or what, but I have been to many houses (in Crestwood and elsewhere) and reception comes in perfectly. However, some HOA's have ordinances that you are not allowed to have satellite dish so if you live in a neighborhood I would check first.

You are allowed to install a dish (within the guidelines) anywhere, no matter what the HOA says.

As far as reception goes, the only problems you may have are trees in the way ( has to have a clear view of the southern sky) and heavy rain or a really heavy snow. If installed correctly, the signal should be strong and should stay that way.

My hubby just did the walk through on the new house we are closing on in Southern Louisville a week from tomorrow. Before the walk through, we were told we could have a dish but only if it was installed on the back of the house. The builder told hubby today that he can't tell us we can't have a dish, but that he does prefer it to be on the back if we get good enough signal. If not then move to the side, before trying the front. Since one of our back corners is SW, we'll have no problems.

The only issue I have with DirectTV is that you almost always loose the signal when it rains real hard, but I had the same problem with Dish Network. The quality of service is fine. For me, the picture quality from both DirectTV and Dish is better than what I could get from cable.
