Just curious...
I sure don't know why Maher would bother doing a show in a place like Louisville, Kintucky. Probably had heavy security.
To me this seems comparable to a Jewish comedian appearing on a Berlin stage in 1943.
Did anyone go to see his show? Or did anyone go to protest that a commie came to Louisville?

Well, how was the show, or were you too cheap to buy a ticket?

It's ironic that I make similar slams against Dayton that you do against Louisville. Perhaps we shoud trade cities?

Just ignore his rants. They speak for themselves.

I actually watched Bill Maher when he did a stint at Ryman Auditorium in Nashville - TN a few months ago. You'd be surprised of how many people in supposedly 'red state' city who actually love him. The auditorium was packed, there were quite a number of people who tried to get in eventhough it's a sold out event. There were also quite a number of Kentuckians who were sitting around us.
Not much security presence in and around the auditorium, other than the one old security guard standing there mainly to make sure people didn't jump the line.

So yeah, sorry to burst your bubble.

I think this is the second time he's been to Louisville, which to our great credit, is a fairly progressive city. He's had good audiences here according to a friend who went and they didn't see anyone protesting.

A communist? Please grow up. We don't run cowering from the room when some right-winger starts name-calling like that any more. Try offering something substantive and we'll talk.

Yours. If you can't see that Louisville is a welcoming city to all kinds of people, then you must have blinders on.

Thanks for your response.
Second time? Amazing!
I have little opportunity to hear/see Bill Maher, but from the stuff I've heard I tend to agree with many of his statements. The "commie" remark was my attempt to second guess what label Louisville's residents would apply to Bill Maher. The cover of LEO (containing a Bill Maher interview) is quite descriptive.
Most of my views are from:
-reading letters to the editor (Courier-Journal) as well as the on-line comments.
-hearing ordinary conversations in public. Reading local bumper stickers. The mentality of talk on Louisville's radio stations.
I think it's very reasonable to assume that Bill Maher (and people like him) are high on the hate list of Bible Belt residents.

That's what happened when you assume too much based on nothing but talk (verbally or written). Trashing Bill Maher on the radio or other media is one thing (these people are paid to talk anyway), but in reality, people have better things to do than shivering in the cold protesting a comedian visiting their city, regardless of their political or religious beliefs.

also, please keep in mind that people most likely to speak out (on the radio, on tv, to on-line articles, in newspapers, in many public forums) are those who have a very "pro" or very "con" argument or opinion, and rarely do they represent the majority. This goes for every city in the world.

forming a broad stroke opinion based on that is pretty uneducated.
