Read in the newspaper this afternoon that Kentucky Kingdom was going to close and move everything out because they couldn't agree to terms of their contract with the Fair Board. I wasn't real impressed with Kentucky Kingdom, especially after going to Holiday World, but that's going to hurt that part of Louisville with all the people that would go there.

SFKK wasn't awesome, but it was a fun place to go a few times during the summer and during the fair. SFKK employed the greatest number of teenagers out of any business in Louisville. There are going to be a lot more kids looking for jobs this summer. According to the fair board, they were still in negotiations with Six Flags to renew their lease, and the decision to close the park was surprising to them.

This is a huge blow to the city - and state. The difference btw Louisville and cities like Dayton or Tulsa used to be having the Slugger & Ali Museums, a nice mid sized zoo, and a large theme park. Th fact that Louisvillians now have to go to Evansville for a real theme park and Lexington for real concerts should be a wake up call to the Mayor for Life.

The CJ article said that Six Flags is going to move the rides and employees to existing theme parks, so it defiantly looks like this closing is permanent.

I wonder how this will affect the Kentucky State Fair when it comes to town?

Where is Holiday World and is it similiar to Kentucky Kingdom? I hope they will come to a positive agreement somehow. I believe it is a good attraction for amuzement.

Too bad about Kentucky Kingdom closing. I used to go there from time to time. Holiday World is in a town called Santa Clause, IN. It is, in my opinion, better than KK. Haven't been in the last few years, but I think they still give out free soft drinks all day long. They've also got a water park area (Splashin' Safari) and some good rides for smaller kids. You can check out their website at Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana | Holiday World
