Hi! I've recently found out about a studio apartment at the Creekside at St. Matthew's apartments that JUST MIGHT be in my price range. Does anyone know anything about them? Also, this is probably a stupid question, but I'm wondering about groceries. As a single guy, I won't need to buy too many groceries, but the Walmart grocery store is a 5 minute bus ride from the apartments. I don't think Walmart's delivers. Is it doable to travel on a bus with 3 bags of groceries, say?

That is a very nice, upscale area. Nearby is an Audi and Jaguar dealership to give you an idea. That particular complex is populated with a large percentage of young professionals I believe. There are several grocery stores within five minutes of there: Kroger, Rainbow Blossom organic foods (independent organic grocery), Whole Foods Market, Walmart Neighborhood Market (in case you are not familiar, this is not a big Walmart but a small one that only carries basic grocery items), and Kroger.

That said, there is a high quality local grocery where you can order online and they will deliver right to your door, all for a minimal charge. The first time is free so you can try it:

Welcome to ValuMarket

The store at Whittington Pkwy should deliver to Creekside. I live downtown and have ordered from the Mid City Mall branch, and was quite satisfied with the service and quality of food they brought me, it was just as if I picked it out myself.

You seem intent to live in an apartment "complex," but do remember the best apartments in the city are NOT in those complexes, but in duplexes and rehabbed old homes. They are usually owned by smaller, local loandlords who you will get to know by name. There is something to be said about that. The best way to find these apartments is to drive (or walk) around a neighborhood that you like, and call the for rent signs people place in yards. The best area to start this search is at the Bardstown and Eastern Pkwy intersection, and you can radiate out from there. To give you a small idea of a fraction of these apartments for rent, here is an example of some people posting them on craigslist:

Thank you very much for your info. As always, your post was very informative. It's not that I'm intent in living in a complex per se, but that my accepting of a job is contingent on finding an apartment that's near a bus line that passes my place of work. Unfortunately, I live 660 miles from Louisville and have to let my future boss know whether or not I accept the job soon. Walking around neighborhoods looking for apartments isn't really an option for me right now. That's why I'm in the complex mindset... it seems a lot easier for someone who's in a hurry and can't travel to KY every weekend to apartment search.
