Hometown girl returns for a visit to Lubbock....Where should we stay/eat?? (Dallas: best hotels, hotel)

My husband & I are planning a visit to Lubbock this week-end. I was born and raised there, but we haven't been there even to visit in about 26 years. So....I have been told MUCH has changed.

What are best hotels/restaurants there now? On Tripadvisor the Arbor Inn and Quality Inn Suites had the best ratings. Input anybody?

Arbor Inn and Suites is a good choice, as is Embassy Suites. As far as restaurants, it really depends what food you're in the mood for. If you're looking for a nice steak dinner for you and your hubby, I'd recommend either Las Brisas or Double Nickel Steakhouse. Also, Triple J Chophouse in the Depot District is very good.
I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how the city has changed. I moved there in 99 and it's much different than it was even back then. Unfortunately, the area is in one of the worst droughts in history. Everything is very dry and brown and all fireworks shows have been cancelled due to fire danger. Hope you have a great visit despite the unusually hot and dry weather!

Exactly. Also, be sure to visit the Tech campus, and bring some rain with you.

Thanks for the input! We made reservations at the Arbor Inn. We are kinda in drought here too. So I doubt I will be able to bring any rain with me. Dallas has, like Lubbock, been unusually hot this summer too.
In fact, Lubbock should be a few degrees cooler than Dallas according to the forecast and sans the humidity. Looking forward to that low humidity again!!

I echo the steakhouse recommendations. One Guy's has great calzones. Spanky's, Blue Sky, and Buns Over Texas are great for burgers. Orlando's for Italian/Southwest fusion, Cancun or the original Abuelo's for Mexican. I can give other recommendations upon request.

Other suggestions for Mexican? ( We have an Abuelos here. So we'd probably like to try something different.)

On the Border (on Slide Rd.) and Durango's (on Frankford Ave.) both have decent Mexican food, but not much in the way of ambiance.

I know someone who swears by Ruby Tequila's across University Ave. from Jones Stadium. I've not had it, though.

Cancun at 82nd and University is my personal favorite. It has more of a truly Mexican feel than the standard Tex-Mex around here.
