Lubbock - Water Department - Water Restrictions

Quote:
The City of Lubbock is Currently in STAGE 1 of the Drought Contingency Plan

The City of Lubbock receives water from the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority (CRMWA), which consists of Lake Meredith and the Roberts County Well Fields, and from city owned well fields in Bailey County. As of August 17, 2007 Lake Meredith stands at 13.07% full and less than 1 foot shy of the record low of 53.66ft (reached in August 2006). Due to this low level the City of Lubbock is in Stage 1 of the Drought Contingency Plan. Water obtained from well fields comes from large underground water reservoirs called aquifers, which are slow to recharge and heavily used. While water supplies are currently adequate, conservation is necessary to ensure future availability.

They are pumping water from AH to the treatment plant now though they are not putting it in the pipes to Lubbock yet I don't think. Lubbock will get its water from 4 sources now. 2 lakes and 2 differently owned well fields. There is talk of the city of post building another lake off the caprock and selling water to Lubbock. I'm not sure where they are on that thought. Also remember that LOTS of people both in the city and on the outskirts get their water from wells on their property. Most off the newer additions on the south side of town, south of 114 th street are this way.

I don't think Lubbock has a water problem now. It appears to have been taken care of.

the end of lake Meridith has been forseen for a longtime. this is nothing new and plans have been made and acted on to deal with this. Lubbock has done a great job of getting ahead of future water issues. Its the other cities in Texas that are in trouble.

Lubbock is indeed in very good shape for water. Lake Allen Henry should come on line this year. But the biggest news in the last year or so is that they bought water rights that T. Boone Pickens had been trying to sell for years. They estimate that that water should be good to supply Lubbock for 100 years. After that, they're screwed, but untill then......
