I think Jimmy Gilmer was born in Chicago and raised in Amarillo. I don't know where he got with the Fireballs but likely in New Mexico at Raton or at Norman Petty Studios at Clovis.

I've actually met Gilmer at one of the Clovis Music Festivals several years ago. The Fireballs I first met in about 1968 when they were performing at the Elks Lodge at Clovis, NM. My then future wife was checking hats that snowy night.

Terry Allen does a Guy Clark song "Old Friends" on the new tribute album to Guy and it is one of the best songs I have ever heard. Rarely does a cover do better then the original but Terry knocks the cover off of the ball. Jerry Jeff does "my favorite picture of you" and it is beautiful. If you guys like Texas country you need to get the tribute album for Guy, it is simply amazing.

High Plains... You might extend it a little farther out and include all of West Texas. Many of those old Country Boys were from San Angelo to Amarillo. Ernest Tubb and Roy Orbison come to mind.
