So my wife, 8 month old daughter and myself are moving to Lubbock from Las Vegas... I've already checked out the town, rented a place. Got the lay of the land and such but I'm struggling... What is there to do in this place? Seems like outside drinking, eating and shopping there really ain't a whole lot going on.

I may possibly be spoiled from living in the entertainment capital of the world past 2 years but I'm just not finding anything to do. Where are like the hiking options, ORV parks, etc?

Palo Duro and Caprock Canyons State Park. Lake Alan Henry is nice.

Lubbock doesn't offer much in the way of entertainment. Why Lubbock cant get a decent theme park or water park is beyond me. Joyland Amusement Park is something out of a horror movie.

Default There's More Than Just Hiking

Lubbock is also a music city, and really needs to be more of one. As you may have already noticed, Buddy Holly is a key figure in Lubbock's history. When you get through hiking and RVing, you may want to check out some locales around town. There are places for music in this city, and sometimes they don't get enough press. Right now, construction is continuing on the new Buddy Holly performing arts center, which should be completed within a year or so. Besides the symphony concerts, it will open up some doors for contemporary artists in other genres to make appearances. Lubbock also has two amphitheaters east of I-27, the Lonestar Amphitheater and the Moonlight Musicals Amphitheatre, and both are very viable entertainment options, as is Texas Tech's United Supermarkets Arena. Below are two links to those connections.

The Depot District in downtown has a few places where you can hear live music every week. Here's another link with more:

And for the kiddos (when your little one gets old enough), they just opened up Adventure Park on the city's southwest side. Hope some of this helps.

Welcome to Lubbock! My family and I moved here a few years ago and really like it. Great place to raise a family. What kind of activities do you enjoy? If you narrow it down a little, I bet I can give you some info.
