SportingNews.com - The Sporting Blog - Texas Tech Is Playing Football Here in 27 Hours

COLLEGE SPORTS Blog | The Dallas Morning News (http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2008/09/smutexas-tech-not-affected-by-lubbock-fl.html - broken link)

Yesterday the Hub City got roughly 7.5 inches of rain in eight hours. Numerous structures were damaged. A state of emergency has been declared.

Does anyone in Lubbock have any first-hand accounts? I'm about 400 miles away.

On I-27 and 19th it was flooded waist high. My friend's car at Lynwood Townhomes got flooded in and Tech was flooded badly to where you couldn't see the street or curbs at all.

A friend of mine lives in Slaton and she said that they got about 9 inches and there is a lot of flooding. Everyone has been told that if they don't have to go out....don't.

Schools were closed and a lot of businesses were closed today because of it.

My parents live in Lubbock and told me that 100 homes are flooded. I'm glad they worked on the drainage system for the playa lakes a few years back or more homes would be flooded.

Yeah, Tech canceled classes. My son said the pond near his apartment building had overtaken their parking lot.

Considering that this storm wasn't even related to Ike, this was amazing. The other day, I looked on Lubbock's new ITS website from TXDOT, and I checked the traffic cameras periodically, and it really was raining out there. A long while, too. They had some standing water in some locations. Hopefully, the city will recover quickly and dry out.

I went outside yesterday, and quite a few neighborhood streets still flooded with barriers to prevent people from driving through.

Hopefully the field will be drained before tonight's game. Otherwise it adds a new dimension.

Didn't seem to affect the crowd, game, or anything else. The radio crew mentioned the bugs, but that's to be expected after ten inches of rain in a week.

Looking forward to the cooler weather this week. If there's a silver lining to the weather, that's it. Should be nice in most of the state this week.

Hoping that cool weather stays around! And that we are done with the heat. Has not been a bad summer overall, heatwise that is...
