Default Info On Student Life In Lubbock/Texas Tech

I have kind of sorta been hit by the recession, lost all my overtime a few months ago. It is really making me take a hard look at my situation, and starting to think I should go back to school. I am 25, currently in Houston, did a few semesters of community college a few years ago. I'd probably go back to CC to get some more credits and improve my GPA, then transfer to Tech.

I have read up on life in Lubbock and have gotten the point that it is a smaller city, conservative, hot summers/cold winters, etc etc.

What I am wondering is how is life for students?

I have previously lived in San Marcos and Austin, and while I liked it I know it isn't exactly fair to expect Lubbock to be the same way. So any of you that have been the or went to Texas Tech, what is student life like? Night life? Campus life?

Are there decent areas off campus that are primarily student neighborhoods/apartments?

Thanks

Lubbock probably has just as good of a student life as San Marcos, though San Marcos has the benefit of being a short drive from Austin. Lubbock has everything you would expect from a college town. There are quite a few bars and clubs, and it has a pretty good music scene for a city its size. Texas Tech probably won't ever make the list of top party schools, but there are 30,000 college students there as well as a few thousand others from LCU, Wayland, and South Plains, so it's not like it's going to be boring.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that Overton Park, South Overton and most of Tech Terrace are where most of the students live.
