Bulldawgfan, this is a zip code map of Macon. Everyone within the blue boundaries writes "Macon, Georgia" on their mail, yet only the people within the red boundary are counted in Macon's city proper population. Within that red boundary is where nearly all of the crime occurs. Notice that you see 8 Zip Codes and only 3 of those are within the red boundary. Pretty Much all of the other 5 are very safe areas. As you can see, they take up much more land as well.

It's unfair to say Macon is as bad as you make it out to be, based solely on crimes that happen in pockets of 31204, 31206, and 31201.......when dang near all of us in 31211, 31210, 31220, 31216 and 31217 live in a safe area.

It's unfair to judge Macon based on statistics that don't even account for over 40% of the population of what truly is Macon, Georgia

King_9.5,

Are you saying that I am making up statistics? Or are you saying that not only do you live in a crime infested city, but the people who draw the lines on maps are out to get you also?

For the record, I ain't in charge of drawing lines on maps. And I ain't out to paint Macon in a bad light, I just call it like I see it. And read about. The fact that the crime problem in your city is generally located in a certain area changes nothing. Staggering numbers are a fact. I guarantee I will never live there, so it ain't no problem to me. The whole "stay out of the bad areas" argument only justifies what I have said all along ... you live in a crime infested city, parts of which must be avoided. For a city the size of Macon, not very desirable is an understatement.

Don't even try that. I never said you made up statistics. I'm saying the statistics you use DO NOT tell the full story of all that is considered to be Macon, Georgia. Over 40% of Macon stays in unincorporated Macon, which is safe.

If you live in Central Georgia in a county other than Houston, then wherever you live IS NOT more desirable or affluent than the zip codes 31220, 31210, and 31216 of Macon. So there's no need to turn your nose up.

Name a community or zip code in your rural county more affluent than zip codes 31220, 31210, and 31216 of Macon. You cant.......

Exactly when did we change the topic from crime to wealth? I will give you this much ... at least this is not more of the addition by subtraction stuff you were trying to pull before. So, let me get this straight, now you are saying that a bunch of rich folk choose to live very near a major crime area ... and this is somehow desirable? Interesting. Your thought process is strange, and for some unknown reason I almost like you for that.

All I really wanted to know was if Macon was a crap hole or not.
Well said. To answer your question as someone who lived in Macon for 10 years (now in Columbus for 2 years...but who cares). Look north from Pierce Ave to Bass Rd, south from Hartley Bridge to W.R., and east to Gray in Jones County. Forsyth in Monroe County is also nice but more expensive and really small. Macon is ok. We lived in North Highlands just east of downtown across the river and never had any problems with crime. This neighborhood has alot of good buys. Why did I move....job transfer.

I am trying to be as vague as possible in where we currently live and where the other job option is just to get some neutral feedback on Macon. Of course it is not hard to find out the other information on this forum

Please be honest. From what I have read, I think we would reside in North Macon or as far out as Forsyth or Lizella.

Thanks!
Macon is an awesome city to live in. don't worry about what anyone else says. Macon is a city not to hood like and not to country and has a great life style. their are plenty of new shopping places an plazas that have been built up and they are planing to bring many interstates and highways into the city. Macon has already started their master plan an they plan to attract as many tourist as they can. their is construction all over the Macon city district and in the metro district. They also have a huge civic center right across the river next to a Marriott hotel. This is also next to a medical center. they also have a few other medical centers in town and a numerous amount of museums and a sports hall of fame. Macon has a lot of things planed for the future and if you think its boring when you move just wait they have a WHOLE LOT COMING Officially MAPWIZARD
