Been all over the world and explored. Lived in many of those places too. The point I was making is that every city has good and bad parts. My neighborhood in Macon rivals any neighborhood in WR as far as safety goes. Of course, you want to paint the whole city with a broad brush and that is of course your prerogative.

As to the original poster, we are glad to have you come to Macon. I think you will be very happy in one of the intown historic neighborhoods.

I'm with Kallie...although not all the citizens in Macon are bad, Macon overall is a dangerous place and the local government is a joke. I'm speaking as a law enforcement officer in the Middle GA area and I also grew up in Macon. I still have friends in Macon and I went through the police academy with people that worked for Macon PD and quit due to the amount of calls and constant bullish*t. Macon officers who said they'd rather be back in Afghanistan as a US soldier, than working for Macon (if that isn't a clue I don't know what is). Most citizens are very sheltered and don't realize that local news stations are not always in the loop about everything that happens. Warner Robins is still a nice place to move but the "bad element" from Macon and Ft. Valley is steadily moving to the area.

I actually HAVE been all over the world - especially the States. I don't think you have, because you wouldn't be painting Macon as such a wonderful place. It's not. Live with it.

If you've been all over the world, saw so many better places, but still remain to live in the place you dislike so much, then that says more about you than Macon.

If you disagree that is fine. I choose not to live in places that I do not enjoy and don't waste my valuable time trying to downtalk places that I don't like, but hey it's all about choices...

Telling me that I am being dishonest on some chat board because you disagree with me....Ok.

I suppose I will change my mind and move immediately based on an anonymous web posting...No.

Have a great day and I will too. It is a beautiful morning and I am going to walk my dogs beneath the trees and admire the spring beauty in my peaceful and beautiful Macon neighborhood. GASP!

Looking forward to the move and living somewhere that isn't suburban cookie cutter/strip mall hell. Thanks for the info, I appreciate the help and looking forward to the move

Hey Sly,

Just curious if you ended up moving after all. im looking to move there sometime this summer with my fiance, we're both in our 20s and dont want to be in a boring suburb. Really i just want to know if you found a safe/fun place to live.

any feedback would be awesome thanks!

Nurseabc, sorry for the delay, work's had me running ragged lately.
In answer to your question, we did decide to move to Macon. We are buying a house near downtown, actually right around the corner from the hospital. We should (hopefully) close next week and be moved here soon. We've spent a lot of time downtown for various festivals and are frequently up there at the bars and restaurants, so far there's much more just in 2 blocks than all of WR as far as unique local businesses goes. If chain stores and cookie cutter suburbia don't bother you, WR is nice for sure, but don't expect much more than that. Plus, downtown has that historic charm to it that the strip malls elsewhere seem to lack.
I would say that anywhere around downtown is fine, just use some common sense and go roam around the neighborhoods before you choose somewhere. I do have friends that live in north Macon and love it, but we prefer to be within stumbling distance if you catch my meaning however, one of the basic rules of finding a new place is visiting at all hours of the day so you can get a feel for it, and that definitely applies here. Don't let people on here discredit the area, if you have at least two brain cells to rub together in your head you'll be just fine.

Welcome!!! You will love it. I did the same thing 6 years ago (moved from WR to near downtown) and have no regrets.
