I have a g g g grandmother who lived on Orange street. Does it still exist? I think she lived on a farm. I just want a little history about the area.

The only Orange St that I know of is in the Intown Historic District which is the original Macon that dates from the 1800s. This is a densely (for southern towns) developed area and has been since at least 1900. I am not sure where the farm land began back then, but I doubt that Orange St was near any farm. Perhaps someone else can attest to this or disagree with this statement. Things WERE significantly different 100+ years ago.

There is also the possiblity that there was another Orange St or that Orange extended out of town back then. Many street names in Macon have changed a few times over the years.

Well, she was born in 1902. I remember her saying she lived near a lake.

Do you know where 3011 Orange St would have been located?

I wish I could help more, but Orange St and Orange Terrace both only rise into the 900 block so that is very far from 3000. With an address number that high her home must have been a little further from downtown on a street that no longer exists. According to county records, there are no other Orange streets currently. (That doesn't mean there weren't others in the past of course)

Default Orange Street Macon

Hi I live in Macon.
There is a house in the InTown neighborhood of Macon, located on the corner of Orange Street and Magolia that I heard used to be a farmhouse. There is a natural spring that runs into Magnolia nearby.
It is a wooden Victorian House, probably built in the mid to late 1800s
The nearby Hay House (about a block away and owned by Georgia Trust) used to have a little lake/pond on the corner of Magolia and spring street in the 1850s.
Meanwhile, there is also a little park, one of the town’s favorites, called Washington Park.
It sits just across Magnolia Street from the house I am thinking of.
A little stone man-made creek fountain pond system was built in the park during the WPA years in the 1930s.
Pam

You know, I was thinking of that as well. there are several parks in the area, and could have been farmland at one time, and then the city was built up.
