Does this guy realize that a traffic signal will also slow traffic? Wouldn't that make the intersection safer anyway if drivers slowed down and looked around for other drivers?

A roundabout makes more sense than a traffic signal.

I have to wonder if he understood what he was saying. I've driven plenty of miles in the U.K., and never had a problem with roundabouts regardless of how fast I had been traveling.

There may be times when they aren't the right tool, but unlike what this gentleman is claiming, it's usually someplace in a large city, not on a highway.

My experience has been that once a person gets used to traffic circles, he/she never wants to go back to waiting at lights.

The physical result of a traffic circle is to slow down cars, but not stop them, as a traffic signal system does.

Proper information signs, placed BEFORE cars reach the circle, showing which outlet to use, to get to a specific street, is a big help. Here in Ontario, we have signs that show the circle, and the names of the branches that you can use. Pavement markings are also important, to keep vehicles in their proper lanes, as they move around the circle. A final point... If a driver misses their turn, they simply go around again, and get off.

Its not that difficult.
