The Macon-Bibb County Urban Development Authority has approved a bond resolution for $14 million that would go toward blight initiatives.

The money will go toward improving Beall’s Hill, Wise Avenue and general blight initiatives, said Alex Morrison, the authority’s executive director. The bond was approved at the authority’s Thursday meeting.

Late last year Macon-Bibb commissioners approved several bond initiatives: $10 million to deal with blight, mostly by tearing down some of the estimated 4,000 abandoned houses in the city; plus $2 million for sidewalks, lighting and similar items in the Beall’s Hill area; and $2 million to tear down about 20 empty houses on Wise Avenue, clearing the way for a soccer field for the soon-to-come Macon Charter Academy.

The $10 million issue is expected by the end of May.
