The Macon-Bibb Commission will talk about leasing a section of the airport to the Industrial Authority in the next committee meeting.
In return, the Authority would make improvements to the fuel farm and terminal building.
"Many of our corporate partners enjoy flying into the downtown airport primarily because of the proximity to some of the businesses, like GEICO that's in the area," said Clifford Whitby, the chairman of the Macon-Bibb Industrial Authority.
Under the proposal, the Industrial Authority would try to attract an operator to sell aviation gas and jet fuel to pilots.
Whitby said the renovation would benefit the community.
"It is tied directly to economic development. We can demonstrate through the numbers the corporate usage ties directly to jobs," he said.
Ward supports the changes, and says he thinks it will be good for his neighborhood.
"Our property values in this area aren't particularly high, so if there is more activity at the airport, it has that potential to increase our property value which would be very nice," he said.
The proposal goes to a county committee Tuesday.
The Bibb County commission is scheduled to give a final vote next week.
