Macon seems to be really getting aggressive with blight. I think this proposal is good not only for Macon, but all Georgia cities.
Quote:
One Macon-Bibb commissioner wants the state to modify a law making the process in which someone can take over blighted property faster.
Commissioner Al Tillman is sponsoring a resolution asking state legislators to reduce the redemption period on foreclosed property to two months.
State law currently has a mandatory 12 month waiting period. Tillman says doing so would speed up development on the properties.
"It may still give the property owner within 60 days to come back to claim his or her property so we don't have to just let a property sit for an entire year before a property owner or developer or someone decides what they want to do with it," Tillman said.
No word on whether state lawmakers would consider introducing the bill next legislative session.
Commissioners will vote on the request during their next meeting Tuesday night.
