The Macon Telegraph is reporting a river cleanup this Saturday, beginning at 08:15 at Amerson Park. Sounds like a good way to get some exercise and do a good deed at the same time.
Ocmulgee River cleanup in Macon set for Saturday | The Telegraph

I've been told that the Ocmulgee River is shallow enough to wade across at times. That strikes me as interesting because I've seen old Macon photos showing steam-driven boats carrying cargo and traveling down river. Maybe in the old days the water level was higher.

It's surprising that there isn't more activity on the downtown portion of the river these days. I seem to recall a raft/kayak business used to be downtown. Whatever happened to it?

How interesting, the newest park in the city getting a clean up. I might join; however, the problem I have with it is:
*How about cleaning up the lake at Freedom Park? I will lead the way!
*How about the pond at Central city park?; and how about so many other parks in desperate need of attention? There is a park in my neighborhood that the city neglect. My neighbors and I pick up the trash from time to time but the grass is knee high right now because it haven't been cut in months.
