The Target location in Macon will be permanently closing right after the holiday season.

According to Kristy Welker with Target Communications, the location at 4685 Presidential Parkway will close on Saturday, February 3.

Welker says the decision was not made lightly.

“We have a rigorous process in place to evaluate the performance of every store on an annual basis, closing or relocating underperforming locations as needed. Typically, a store is closed as a result of seeing several years of decreasing profitability,” said Welker via e-mail.

Welker says all employees at that location will be offered the option to transfer to remaining stores in the area.

Eisenhower Crossing opened in 2001 and has been left with some big holes in recent years with the departures of Dick's Sporting Goods and most recently HH Gregg.

The only remaining Target in Central Georgia is the location on Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins.

If it were in North Macon it would be fine. Target goes after a more affluent shopper than Wal-Mart. West Macon is a Wal-Mart area not a Target one.

Cant say I'm surprised by this, thought it would have been closed or moved to the North side near Bass Rd. or the Northwest side anyway. South or Southwest Macon is no area for a Target, never expected it to remain in that area. Been rumored they may build another in the North Macon area.

That Target was supposed to be built back in 2013 and it never happened. That site has been passed around to 3 different developers with the latest developer not including a site plan with Target as an anchor. Target is only building small format stores mainly near universities and city centers.

Target is hurting corporately across the country. I agree this store would have been fine on Bass or Riverside but building a new store on that side of town at this point is highly unlikely.
