FPD/Monroe Academy 1987.
I've seen the many different cycles that Macon has gone through.
I actually remember going shopping in downtown Macon as a kid (Sears, J.C. Penney, Jos. N. Neel's).
I can remember when there was passenger train service coming through Macon and when people actually regularly used the Macon Airport.
Wow.........I'm old.......

Windsor Academy 1992. We were still crusing Godfathers (of course Godfathers was no longer there, but still the same parking lot) during my school years...

you know there's a facebook group now for people who skated at that Olympia Skate center on the North side of Macon in the late 70s, early 80s (when some of us who remember Westgate Mall and Downtown being good places to shop and when Macon Mall first opened like PotterGeek and MacsMom)
lol --- who would have thought Macon Mall would fall out of favor?
i guess anything does given enough time....

I heard that a new mall opened in North Macon in the Bass Rd area. The area where the Macon Mall was is just a very bad part of town... Maybe that had something to do with the situation.

If you read some of the other posts in this thread, you'd realize your correct...Although it's not a mall, it's like an outdoor plaza but they call it a lifestyle center...

Well most of the developers are calling it a open air Mall(lifestyle center), thats why people are referring to it as a mall...

I think malls in general are passe. It's really an 80s fad past its prime. People prefer the open air lifestyle centers now. Cities like Augusta, Macon and Columbus are really only going to be able to support one large mall. That's why the Regency mall closed in Augusta.. the city was just never big enough to support 2 large malls. It would be nice if Augusta mall could get a truly upscale dept store...something like a Nordstrom or bloomingdales, but I doubt the city would be able to support that.

Wow, that was harsh. I shop at Ross all the time. By myself. Never felt threatened.
What exactly are we supposed to take a zero tolerance stance on......the way that people dress? Wow, I would have totally been banned from the city limits during my Madonna phase in my teens! lol
Sure, the baggy clothes and visible underwear is pretty stupid and unflattering, no matter the color of the person wearing them. But, numerous tattoos and piercings aren't exactly the epitome of attractiveness either. And let's not forget all those poor girls out there with the muffin tops and thongs peeking out of their low slung jeans.
Granted, there are few news stories of people getting mugged by fat girls in tight jeans, but until proven otherwise, their fashion choices are just that....bad fashion choices.
I did all my Christmas shopping by myself. Some during the day, some during the evening hours. Never got mugged, never got carjacked, never got approached by a crackhead, never got kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery at an asian massage parlor. Not to say it doesn't happen, just not with the frequency that some might think.
If you're so concerned for your safety, get a concealed weapons permit and pack some heat.

 NO PLEASE DON'T!!!!
Last thing we need is another overly trigger happy has been choking the mussel because somebody looked scary to 'em.
So thugs are ugly but so are pimples, moles, feet and people's private parts. Yet for some odd reason folks seem to like 'em and / or can't get rid of 'em.
