Macon IS incredibly scary at night.......with all the werewolves and vampires roaming about, who knows what your fate may be? And let's not forget the band of organ thieves who use hot girls to slip a mickey into people's drinks, steal their organs, and leave them in a bathtub of ice with a cordless phone and a note to call immediately upon waking or you will die!!
On a serious note, ARE you being serious??? Just last month, I went to Dinner and Movie at the Cox Capital Theater located smack in the middle of downtown Macon. I didn't get held up at gunpoint.
Last year, I attended the Foodies Award Ceremony at the Douglas Theater, located in downtown Macon. Lots of people dressed up, furs & diamonds everywhere. A large group actually walked from the Douglas to a downtown bar after the ceremony. Not a one was robbed, raped, accosted by a homeless drunk, or suffered any other adverse circumstances.
What IS it with you people that contend that Macon is a crime pit? Sure, crime happens. Times are tough, people are getting more desperate and more bold. You can't plan for random acts. But use some common sense about your surroundings and your locations and you'll be fine.

So what can you get in Macon that you can't get in WR? Really, WR has everthing but a BASS PRO shop. And for crime, I never said anything of getting mugged by gunpoint. Just from my experiences on Cherry St, my wife and I were subjected to a very uncomfortable and threatened situation. We walked around a corner of the buildings and we were surrounded by a large group of young black men. They were VERY rud and made abnoctious comments to us. No harm done but it was the last time we went there during the night.

People say some funny things on here, like Silverspank. You cant blame the last mayor when it comes to crime at least, because gang problems, and murders in Macon were higher in years before he got in than during his term and now.
All I have to say is if Macon, GA is SO scary at night and if people are talking about how scared they are to go into that shopping center where ROSS is, then you will be scared in 90% of the places you go to.
Whats scary? crowded crime-ridden cities that are very small in sq. miles but high in population density (like camden nj or east saint louis, il).
......not Macon. Its not scary, It just has SOME bad neighborhoods, just like Chattanooga or any other mid sized southern city that might not even be "rated" as bad as macon. You just stay out of the bad neighborhoods as much as you can.

MacsMom I don't see how, with the headlines, you can say that Macon's crime isn't all that bad. Except in North Bibb I would advise nobody to go out at night. Maybe you didn't draw the unlucky ticket. I will give you this; going to the right areas of Bibb at night will ensure your safety.
The poster who said our town was divided between the snobs and everyone else was right. This is sort of a Stepford. It seems everything good goes to North Macon. Here in South Bibb we are getting bunches of new stores but we will still have rednecks come shopping, especially from Crawford and Peach Counties. Then again the "rich" Maconites weren't the brightest bulbs in the chandelier. Many of the snootiest people in North Bibb were probably Bloomfield refugees or have a grandfather who worked on airplanes (nothing bad about either but they should remove the beam out of their eyes before casting aspersions).

I am waiting on them to just build a fence around Macon and make it the next prison reality show. "Escape from Macon". You can check in but can't check out.
If moving to macon. You really need to research where you are gonna live. You can have nice homes on one street. but the crack houses two blocks over.

Why does people mostly (whites) always act like the only people capable of crime and being rud is blacks, Whites and other races contributes to crime problems as well and having some of the worst attitude problems, especially whites they complain and bicker about everything under the sun.... It really pisses me off to here people always stereotyping Black people... However Macon has way more to offer than WR.... Jobs, shopping, dining, entertainment and more, I can name at least 30 places that WR DOES not that still draws people to Macon.....Because if you settle the Mall and stores in centerville/WR for shopping clearly that shows you have no taste in fashion.....If you so scared to visit Macon at night well you must never travel WR at night especially around the N. Davis Area and/or to Atlanta or other cities larger, you must have really bad phobia of blacks....
