I am a fan of Macon, but if you are looking for a small town/country feel, Macon is definitely NOT what you want for your family. I would suggest Forsyth (Monroe County), McDonough area or Jackson itself.

Default Move to Milledgeville, Ga

Hi,
I lived in Milledgeville, Ga. which I think you would really like. It has the country atmosphere or at least where I lived in The Oaks at Willow Lake.
New subdivision, beautiful homes for the money.
I think Jackson, Ga is app. 40 Miles-etc. and not far from Macon.
I have heard the school are good in the area I lived.
I have no small children though.
I would not have liked living in Macon.
Didn't even like to go to the Mall there.

Thank you for the replies, I have looked into the Milledgeville area, Are there any good rental homes in the area? I have also found out the job is in Juliette Ga. How close is that to Milledgeville? Do you know anything about Gray GA? what kind of community is this town? Thank you for all your help.

Juliette is in the middle of no where but is very nice. Was one of my favorite places to go on my days off or just to get away. The homes in the area are cheap enough not to rent and unless you just have to rent you will probably pay more monthly than if you purchase especially considering the current market. The only job I can really think of there is going to be at the power plant and if that is the case live anywhere near work and travel into town for entertainment and whatever daily living needs you have.

If you just want to live close to the school your kids attend move into Forsyth or Boilingbroke. Jackson is nice but to far away from any conv's in my mind once you consider the traffic and having to travel north even further away from your target area for the closest conv's.

Gray is ok but over rated in my opinion (would-be McGray standard box homes over priced, poor quality construction and none of the major big box chains to complete it) and you will still have to drive into Macon for your needs. Milledgeville is ok in areas but is honestly going to take you an hour to get to work and if you ever want to do anything your driving an hour to get there again.

Pull out a map and basically stay between 19/41 & 23/87 starting in Macon going north but I wouldn't go any further than Exit 193 - Johnstonville Road just out of pure conv. Good luck and enjoy. You are moving to a fantastic area and I'm a little jealous I'm not there right now.
