Also, I have been all around downtown Macon and Columbus
I wouldn't say that both of them are COMPLETEY dead, but both still have a long way to go. I dont find either one of them that safe to be in at night.
To even hint that what Columbus has in its downtown overwhelms what Macon has to offer, is just not the truth.
Both DTs are kind of boring right now, with the only real difference being that ATLEAST Macon's downtown actually looks like you're in a metropolitan city, while Columbus' looks like a small town.

To be honest Macon does have alot of work to do, and if people find it too dangerous or ghetto for them (though we do have several very nice areas as well) I could understand your points.
What I cant understand is how some of these people say they love or can completely tolerate another place that has many of same characteristics of Macon, but yet they only list the characteristics as cons when it comes to Macon.
For an example, if someone were to make a blanket statement of "Macon is Ghetto"....I would mention to them that we do have nice parts but I could understand where they were coming from.
But if you are comparing Columbus to Macon...and you start talking about how much of a "Ghetto Dump" Macon is...lol..that would be irrelevant to your argument considering that Columbus is basically just as ghetto.
I've traveled through, been to and have family in several of these small central/south ga towns.
If someone moved from the North GA mountains to Macon, I could understand their culture shock....but GIVE ME A BREAK LOL.....if you come from Dublin, Americus, Eastman, Jeffersonville, Milledgville, Valdosta or one of MOST of these central and south ga towns......then you see "thug culture" everyday just like we do in Macon. Stop puttin on an act like you were in Mayberry all of sudden until you hit Macon.

Man Yes, you rock, I agree with you 110%.....Dang you hit the nail on the head...

If you can live there you can live in Macon

Exactly, It kill me how people put up such a front, like they have never be exposed to this type of culture or behavior in any city or town they have lived in or visited but Macon. I really don't pay any attention to what some of these people say on hear because I know the true, especially stuff bulldawgfan "AKA" Macondawgfan has to say,he and others goes above and beyond just to dog or bash Macon, or try to make it seem like a nasty hell hole.....In that case if those type of cultures and behavior makes a city a hell hole then every city in the US and internationally is so too.

Yea, these people are in cities and towns where you basically see the same things everyday as you do in Macon, yet they act like they visited Macon and have lived in Maine all their life lol.

I'm telling you, I think they just don't like Macon for what reason i'm not sure and try their best to make it appear to be worst place on earth. Just in my opinion i really feel that Macon has more potential to excel than any other Ga 2nd tier city, All the city needs is for the leaders and development committees, working together more and modeling other city like Macon who has recruited lots of positive developments and activities to their cities like Richmond, Rochester, Mobile, Greenville and Tallahassee. Tallahassee right now is having a boom of growth DT... Macon was experiencing a huge growth boom as well in the north and south parts of the city/county but because of the economic chaos a lot of the projects postponed or pushed back there developments until 2010 or 2011...

they look pretty much the same to me.
tallahassee is a good example of a small city with a nice downtown. its pretty active at night too.
speaking of small georgia cities, valdosta has a very active downtown. even at night. its small, but nice.
below are links to a couple of websiters for downtown valdosta.

As far as activities, they are about the same. As far as looks, well Macon has a few tall buildings, that makes the skyline look VERY nice coming down Gray Hwy or Emery Highway in East Macon, and although while not nearly as nice, while coming down 75 and branching off unto 16 isnt as nice...it still looks like you're in a "city" if you look off to the side at downtown Macon. Columbus has no type of skyline at all.

I think I would love Tallahassee, Augusta, and Savannah. My problem was that when I left Macon I was lookin for another urban city that wasnt anywhere as big as Atlanta, but yet stil noticeably bigger with more things to get into than Macon, and Columbus just wasnt that city. It WAS Macon, WITH a more rural look and feel and it disappointed me.

yes I agree, DT Macon Skyline look pretty impressing coming from East Macon down gray hwy, i wish i could take a pic but you would have to stand in the middle of that busy 6 lane hwy to do so.
