I would say Macon has a police problem which is escalating the crime problem. When thugs can commit 12 to 34 robberies BEFORE MPD can "catch" them, I'd say there is a police investigation problem and it may be from the top down.

Very good point, MaconWard1. I wonder, as the city population has stayed static or even went down, what happened to the size of the police force? I only bring this up because, after reading RundownMacon's lame attempt to include Warner Robins into Macon on the other thread, I noticed how the police force in Warner Robins has grown substantially.
I will do some research to see if there has been a significant change in the size of Macon's police force. If no big change has occurred I think you may be on to something.

You'd have a hard time finding any city in GA that has a higher crime rate than Atlanta. Atlanta's population is what...a couple million in the metro?

True, but the crime rate per 100,000 is still higher, regardless of total population. Atlanta has been a city with one of the highest crime rates in the country for quite a few years. Most of the mid sized cities in GA also have higher than average crime rates.

Somewhere between 5 and 5.5 million, actually. This year.

Macon has a crime problem. So when talking just about that only, it's important to factor in.
When we are discussing all of Georgia second tier cities, they all have crime problems and cancel each other out. There's no need to dwell on Macon, Savannah, Augusta, Albany or Columbus. They all have equal or more bad parts of town than good parts.

Wait, how accurate are these sites?
I'm on the "neighborhoodscout" site and the darker the region the safer it is by the color code.
Unionville....safer than Ocmulgee East?
Unionville is over by the mall, in the heart of the "inner city"
Ocmulgee East is headed towards twiggs county and has more rural communities, nothing wild
really goes on out there.

From the description tab on the same neighborhoodscout link I posted earlier...

"The crime data that NeighborhoodScout used for this analysis are the seven offenses from the uniform crime reports, collected by the FBI from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies, and include both violent and property crimes, combined. "

I'm not familiar enough with Macon to know where these neighborhoods are but from the looks of it, neither of them are in the top 10 safest as ranked by neighborhoodscout.com.

neighborhood scout is full of crap. When I looked at my east macon neighborhood on their little map, I noticed it was colored in about as white as possible...suggesting it as one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Macon. When you hover the mouse over my neighborhood it says "crime index: 3 (100 safest)......all of that suggesting it must be a dump....yet when you click on it and read the actual information its says

ETHNIC/RACIAL GROUPS

WHITE (NON-HISPANIC) (%) 22.4
BLACK (%) 73.1
HISPANIC (%) 1.7
ASIAN OR PACIFIC ISLANDER (%) 1.3
AMERICAN INDIAN OR NATIVE OF ALASKA (%) 0.1

AGE & LIFESTYLE mostly College students (people currently attending college), some Young singles-upwardly mobile (young, educated, professionally employed, and single), some Mixed ages, some Families with children (family households with school-aged children)

EDUCATION LEVEL Rating: 7 (5 is average for the U.S., 10 is most educated)

INCOME Upper middle income (well-above average income for America)

OCCUPATIONS mostly Executive, managerial & professional, some Manufacturing & Laborers, some Government employees, some Clerical, assistants & technical support, some Sales & Service workers
ETHNICITY/ANCESTRY mostly Black, some White (non-Hispanic), some Irish ancestry, some Hispanic, some Asian Indian

Moderator cut: link removed, linking to competitors sites is not allowed

lol......I thought people like that only lived in North Macon..excuse me...Northern Bibb County, out of the city limits (sarcasm).....please explain to me how this is one of the most dangerous areas in Macon...and deserving of being colored in white with a crime index of 3...with 100 being the safest

you cant trust that crap.....

sometimes you just have to go see things for yourself

When I click on the link you posted, I get a page that has "subscribe for detail" written on most of the data". Where are you seeing this info?
