Please give me the straight talk on Macon's crime-level
I've never been to Macon but I hope an opportunity will be developing soon there. However, it appears from the threads I'm reading that Macon is crime-ridden. So a couple of questions... How bad is it? Are we talking Gary, IN here? Are there more dangerous neighborhoods than safe neighborhoods? If you aren't a local, would you move your family there? TIA for an insight!

If you can afford one of the affluent neighborhoods, and do not wander too far, you will just maybe be OK. The crime index for Gary is actually LESS than Macon. Tell me, what do you think??

Well to be honest with you, Macon does have a bit of a crime problem but,it not as bad to say its a crime ridden city.....Although Macon does have its crime problems it does have alot of very nice areas as well including lots of positive growth and developments in the entire surrounding areas.... But if you really want the truth about Macon you should research it on the web or check out some of the Macon websites, because there are a large amount of people who post on this forum that does NOT like Macon, who hates its existence and wish nothing but the worst for the city... So mark my word you will get nothing from this forum but responses from people saying its a hell hole, ghetto, slum and all of the above.....Which is NOT a true reflection of what Macon is really like......
Here are some websites to check out.....

It would seem that crime in Macon is slightly higher than in Augusta. It's probably slightly above average for a city its size. Not a lot of jobs, alot of high school dropouts and drugs.

What say you, RundownMacon? Those sites bogus too?? The people who gathered that data must belong to the Macon haters club also, huh?

Thanks for the all of the responses. Thanks also for mentioning that there are good areas. Crime is off the hook where I am now, but, since it's a larger city, there are places of "refuge". A lot of the crime here is isolated to certain, predictable areas... call me a naive gal, but is it the same there or is it a bit too small for that?
Those are really interesting crime stat Web site that a few of you listed.

Hey Bulldawgfan, type in Atlanta for each of those sites and you will see the crime rates are higher for it than Macon on all of these websites.
