Post News, Wis. candidate can't use controversial description.

MADISON, Wis. – A legislative candidate from Wisconsin can't use a profane, racially charged phrase to describe herself on the ballot, an election oversight board decided Wednesday.

Ieshuh Griffin, an independent running for a downtown Milwaukee seat in the state Assembly, wants to use the phrase, "NOT the 'whiteman's b----.'"

Good lord, what an idiot. I can't believe she actually got 3 judges to buy her argument. Although, frankly, if she wants to embarrass herself like that, I say let her. There's not a chance in hell she could win with it, so why not.

She is not running for a seat for downtown Milwaukee, her district would be a north side district that is mainly black and very poor with the exception being Glendale which is a upper middle class mixed suburb.

I would not trust a news source from out-state or out of the area for accurate reporting. If you ask me the AP is not a reliable source of info, more of a regurgitation of local news.

100% agreement regarding the Associated Press!

If you remember, the corporations which fund the 'news' sources that make up the AP were the same ones who wrote amicus curae briefs in their sucessful (on appeal) crusade to allow their reports to be slanted so as to reflect the financial interests of said corporations. That was the infamous Akre case that was decided in 2003.

I'd like to see how a Milwaukee source frames the subject before commenting.

Update:

Okay, she did an interview with Kent Wainright, one of the local media types.

Ms. Griffin says her use of the term, "Whiteman's b****" is a common term that's come to mean, one who will not be a lackey for the vested interests, in her community.

She plans to appeal. I wish her luck, although I doubt the WMC majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court will be willing to hear the case, as there is no money for them in it.

What does WMC stand for? Sorry to expose my ignorance...

She's appealing to be able to use this term? Give me a break. I too am one who will not be a lackey for the vested interests in my community, i.e. as a community leader and organizer, but I still find this phrase offensive on so many levels--the internalized sexism, the racism, and the divisiveness. Why are we spending so much time on this one case? She does not represent me or the majority of African American citizens.

I'm black, and you're absolutely right...

To me, she's trying to represent that segment of the black population that gets off on people bellowing about how 'hard' they are, or how they're gonna 'stick it to Whitey'...

I'm not a resident of Milwaukee, but if I were, I wouldn't be offering my vote to this candidate...there are so many other ways she could have described herself, had she been involved with people who had her best interests at heart, and not let her go popping off like she's ready to go rumble somewhere...good grief

Thanks, cap'n. lol. I am just so tired of people like this being held up as representative of the entire Black race. Please. Let her be as gangsta, or gansta-wanna-be, as she wants to be. But should she be popping off like this in a position of political leadership? I don't think so. Clearly she does need some guidance, or some time to grow up.

Agreed - it's her political funeral!
