i'll buy that; as my heritage has German and we were raised Catholic. And i do recall even as a kid going out for a Friday fish fry.

That's one of the few things we miss being down here now; while we can get some great fresh fish (saltwater varieties), something about breaded cod or haddock that just hits the spot lol

Our friend Drover speaks the truth! AND it's an "out to eat" tradition because back in those days taverns were the community gathering place.

Churches used to do it too in their church halls. Some still do.
