Default Grandview Commons-Development Issues

Hey guys so I was reading this article about Grandview Commons on Madison's east side. I didn't realize the project was at the scale it was. Do you think they should allow Copps to build a store? I honestly think that the Cottage Grove area which is in that direction needs more commercial development. It's house after house. What's your take on this? Do you think Veridian is trying to make a quick buck since the housing market slowed down?

No I don't think Viridian should ram this down their throats. When they purchased their homes in this community they were told the store would be no more than 25,000 SF. Now they want to build one that is over 50,000 SF. Sounds like bait and switch to me. Viridian homes suck. They use the cheapest materials and new homes start to fall apart after 3 or 4 years. Buyer beware I guess.

Do you think these residents would flock to a smaller grocery store like a Trader Joes?

I get the feeling they want something like a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods...an uppity type store. They know the big boxes don't downsize...except Wal Mart....maybe a neighbrohood Wal Mart food store would work? In any event, how many residents on the south and north sides wouldn't kill for a grocery store? And now these people are up in arms over the size of the grocery store. It still won't even be as big as a typical Copp's. Some people will never be happy though and always want to micromanage these things and get invlved in minutia. In the end the grocery store will never materilize and the commercial aspect of their urban village will not come to fruition, and they will just remain a denser residential negihborhood. I suppose that's what they would rather be vs. having a normal size grocer.

I'm interested in watching this play out because the same thing happened in Middleton Hills. There was a lot of ugliness, but it's turned out very well in the end. You'd think both sides would learn from what happened there.

I don't know much about the proposed development, but I seriously wonder how someone could list a that link and expect anything objective, reality based. But then again that forum/paper has been dying for a while and is about dead, so this might be a great way to generate traffic for them.

Then they can show advertisers that people actually visit that board, so they can get a check. Dang rich corporations!!!

How can something be rammed "down their throats"? Are they building the store in someone's livingroom or something?

Where were the complaints about woodmans? That used to be a nice area until they moved in and since, it's a traffic mess. And all that hard surface has been a nightmare for runoff.

I guess I missed all the hubub about woodmans ramming things down people's throat. Isn't the huge, rich corporation woodmans building another one of their absolutely HUGE stores

So sad that businesses actually try to conduct business in madison--it's nothing but a government town. It should move on the other side of the interstate, but it would have to deal with an only slightly less oppressive and repressive government...the czars, witches are warlocks of dane county's board.

Madison. lol.
