Question Banking in Madison?

Hi There,

Now that we secured a rental for my relocation this Wednesday, I am curious if there are any favorite banks? I currently have BB&T which is not available and was leaning towards Associated until I saw some posts on excessive fees...could just be people have had individual bad experiences?

We just need checking, online banking and a local branch in either Monona or downtown Madison.

Thank you,
Justin & Allison

I'm really happy with Summit Credit Union. Very few fees and the ones they have are much lower than any bank. They have all of the services a regular bank would have and the employees are super nice. They have locations all over town, so it is easy to access your money without paying atm fees. They don't have a branch in Monona, but a couple downtown, one on E. Wilson and one on W. Washington.

we had Associated for years up there and were happy enough with them (originally was first federal), mainly for ease of tyme (atm) machines and branch locations. For that i'd compare them somewhat to BBT down here. Though i'd have to admit we never took any loans thru them as those rates were higher

We have used UW Credit Union for years and have no complaints. I don't remember the last time we were charged a fee for something. There are some great credit unions in town, so unless you really want a bank, there is no real need to look at banks.

That said, the company I work for uses Associated Bank as our business bank and we have had a good experience with them. Not sure how that translates to personal banking, though I would expect similarly good service.

our experience for many years with Associated was positive, and liked they were scattered throughout WI when we hit the road. But again when we needed an auto loan, etc we hit the local credit unions as they were far more competitive on that end
