Hi all I live in Sheboygan WI, and just cant take it anymore. I was born and raised here, and I have used up my job resources, life and what not. I just cant handle the conservative non progressive lifestyle. I travel a lot, been to many places, and to this day still cant find a comparison to Madison. I have been in the Natural Foods, Vitamins, Herbs business for over 10 years, and would like to stay in the field I love. I am more than willing to work other jobs as I am now in Sheboygan.

I do lots of job searching using all the sights craigslist, WI Job Service etc etc. I have noticed its real tough to find work when you live 200 some miles away, and would have to relocate. I am thinking maybe I have to save some cash, and just move and take it from there.

To me any advice is great advice so fire away ! I am all ears as to ideas.

Thank you all for taking the time, Sincerely Chris K

In general, I would say apply to jobs and use a Madison area address. Even if you just pick a random one, it won't be an issue. No one mails out interview notices nowadays. Just have a working phone and make sure you will be able to drive to Madison for an interview when called. When you get a job, that is when you should look for a room to rent or an apartment. But telling people you don't live where you want to work is a catch-22 so the only way to get around the problem is to get hired. Remember, getting an apartment or room is hard if you don't have a local job as well.

I would not move without a job lined up in this economy. My friend moved to Portland without a job and it took her 18 months to find one. Lucky for her she is frugal and had lots of savings, but most people can't survive for that long without some kind of income. If you want to work as a waite person or a clerk you will probably find a job right away, otherwise it could take months and months.

Sounds like you should leave where you are living as you aren't happy there. Not a lot of people like to be around unhappy people, so I think you should move to madison. I think you will like madison and fit in.

With your interests, I'd go to the willy/mifflin st. co-ops, whole foods, heck, even woodmans, and demand they give you a job and pay you a living wage and complete free health care.

Quote:
Woodman’s Food Market, the giant grocery retailer, is dropping mental health benefits from its health insurance plan because it claims it cannot afford to comply with a new federal law that will require mental health coverage to be equal to benefits for other illnesses.
Ok, then forget woodmans as that employee owned business hates working people. They probably hate women too, but that's a different post.....all for humor of course.

Move to where you can be with your kind. Vote with your feet

Hi Megan I was born in 1967 !! I have many ways of income. I am a professional musician for many years, also graphic design, and health field. I now am working Security on top of that. I am not afraid to work clerk jobs, and all my references are my employers. Your point is very valid, and I have to be careful.

Hi Kchomps I see you have a good sense of humor...lol I travel to Madison a lot. I enjoy Willy's street, Johnson street, State street, and go to woodman's when I am there. I love Regent Street Co op, Trader Joe's, I love to hang at the Union, and go look out over Monona terrace I have applied to all these, but like Chelito23 say's "Not living there is a catch 22".

Don't get me wrong, I am happy go guy......Just frustrated some, and working on getting to my goals.

Then either win the lottery or just get going on it. No one likes to hear about how unhappy someone is where they are.....fluking move! Get the fluke out of there then!
