Hey, All...

Any ideas for renting in Iowa county? Husband works on campus, so we'd like to
keep his commute an hour or less. We're currently living in Columbus, but would like to move to the west side and build our next home-- and try it out first by renting. We'd even consider Sauk and Green counties...

Looking for 3 bedrooms/2bath between $900- $1500 monthly.
Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

You may want to post this in the general Wisconsin forum rather than the Madison sub-forum.

I would look at Sauk City in Sauk County as a nice, small, healthy and growing town NW of Madison within commuting distance.

Dodegeville is another smaller Wisconsin city due west in Iowa County. I think the terrain around Sauk City is more attractive being in the river valley and having the Baraboo range and rock formation along the Wisconsin river. Dodgeville has more of a feel of being on the plains with large, rolling hills and ridges and fewer trees in the countryside. I don't know if that makes a difference, but those are noticeable contrasts between the two places. I think Sauk City is closer commute wise...but not by a whole lot.

You will probably find rentals by looking at realty offices in those cities and said offices will most likely have listings for nearby rural areas and smaller towns as well. Good luck.

The New Glarus area is beautiful and within the desired commute time. Mineral Point and Spring Green are also worth considering, although both aare bit further out. These 2 areas are a bit more artsy and cultural than others in rural Wisconsin.

Dodgeville is 45-55 minutes at least to the UW. I would check Sauk City or even New Glarus.

I second New Glarus. You don't have to go as far as Iowa County to find nice rural living.

But Iowa County is one step further away from Dane County taxes...
