I would agree with everything you said except this. If you compare plans side by side, for the same price Verizon is the most expensive on National Plans. They generally offer fewer anytime minutes for the price and have no special features like alltel's my circle, sprint's nights at 7, or us cellular's free incoming calls.
I have some family that lives outside of Madison and uses us cellular and they've never had any complaints. I use alltel when I come up and it works fine. With the way all the providers work together and cover different areas, I would just go with the one who's plans work out best for your situation.
