I used to like Kohl's Food Stores when I lived there, but I know that Copp's bought the chain out a year or so after I moved. How do the converted Copp's stores compare to their former incarnation as Kohl's?

They closed the Kohls on Northport. Copps has done a big upgrade of all their stores over the last 5 years or so and they are all very nice. Much beter selection than before, nicely laid out and aesthetically pleasing stores. I go to the one on Aberg when I don't feel up to fighting the crowds at Woodman's. It's like a nice vacation destination by comparison. It does seem more expensive though.

I'm quite interested to see what the new HyVee store will be like. The last I heard, they were going to move into the spot that used to be K-Mart on East Washington by the Schlotzky's, I think sometime in 2009. Folks I know in Iowa who shop there say that the prices are excellent.
Interestingly enough, the east-side Woodmans has recently embarked on a big remodeling/refurbishing project, rather unusual for a store on the non-yuppy side of town. I wonder if the expected competition from HyVee has got them worried at all.

While I visited friends in Evansville, they were devoted Piggly Wiggly shoppers. Is that the only option in Evansville? Lol, all kidding aside, it was a nice change because we dont have those out here, or in Az, where I lived at the time. I want to go check out Winn-Dixie, next time I head for the midwest. (I took this just at the side of the building where we were parked).

I was disappointed to not see Sentry on your poll. The Hilldale Sentry is a wonderful store. Overpriced, probably. A cozy, pleasant shopping experience, definitely. The best cheese selection I've ever seen, which is important.

Woodmans east hands down, I like the huge selection. It ain't perfect but if it ain't broke why fix it?!? It is relatively close to my residence though, which also makes it convenient.
We go to the meat market for steaks and such, and I also stop in at Kohl's, Pick n Save, or Sentry, but nothing really touches Woodmans. The people in Milwaukee wish they had one

I wasn't aware we had a Winn Dixie in WI. I thought they were mostly in the south. Piggly Wiggly seems to only "do" the smaller towns of which Evansville most definitely qualifies.
