Hello,
I wrote an earlier post regarding Sun Prairie and our potential move to the Madison area next year. I was hoping someone might know something about Edgerton and Evansville in Rock County. I saw that there was a lot of very affordable real estate out there. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I noticed that there were 18 registered sex offenders (most of them for crimes against children) in Edgerton, and it alarmed me because Edgerton is such a small town ( I believe it said a population of around 4700). Does anyone have any comments on this? I really appreciate any insight anyone can offer! |

Edgerton is a good place to live and like you said affordable real estate as well. I lived and worked in the Madison area for 9 years and also did some part-time work for some realtors in that area if you want any referrals or contact information let me know. Edgerton is a nice alternative to the more expensive Madison or the ever-rising expenses of Middleton.

If you work on the east side of Madison then Edgerton is more convienient. If you work on the west side then Evansville is more convienient. Personally I like Evansville better but there are good points of both.

If you like a small town setting where the neighbors seem to care then edgerton is the place for you. I have an aunt and uncle who live there and they love it. The neighbors they have are friendly. The town has a public swimming pool and park that are fairly new. also if you like antique shops they have several. It's 10 miles from Janesville 4 miles from milton 12 miles from evansville 10 miles from stoughton and 25 miles from Madison. There is I-90 access on the north and east of town. I hope you visit and give it a chance.

We live in Evansville and like it except for the fact that there is really nothing here. There are about 3 or 4 restaurants to eat at, a couple of bars that also serve food, and the country club that has a pretty good fish fry, but that's really it. We don't frequent a couple of these restaurants though because of poor service.
We have a Piggly Wiggly that no one in their right mind would actually do their main shopping at because it is very expensive, and we have dollar stores, and an Ace Hardware. There are also a couple of smaller non-chain stores that offer diferent things. Other than that though, you really need to go to Madison, which on a good day is a half hour away. Beyond there not being much here, we love the small town feel, almost everyone we have met has been very nice, and high school football season really gets the town excited, which is fun to be a part of. We don't have children but have heard the schools are very good, and they better be because we pay a lot in property taxes.....check out the cities website to get an idea of what you might pay if you find a house you like here. But, yes, housing is pretty affordable, that is why we ended up here. Hope this helps |

My understanding is that property taxes are outrageous in thse towns and getting worse.

I have lived in Evansville for my entire life besides my five years in college (changed my major twice!). I never thought that I would come back after college until I thought of where I wanted to raise my children. Evansville could not be a better place to raise kids!
Because of GM closing their doors we are forced to move out of our home town we love. As it is 1:14AM in the morning and still wide awake searching for a new school district that we feel comfortable in I try not to think of all the wonderful things that they will miss here in Evansville. No, we don't have all the choices to eat out. However, I find that helps families to eat together at home. The community is growing and yet still keeps that VERY friendly feeling. Evansville will always be my home town. |

Ive been to Evansville and fell in love with it. Almost moved there but would have had to commute to Stoughton to work. Eateries are limited in Evansville, like anything else, but being a town of around 4,000 people what would one expect? My memories of beautiful southern WI will always be there. I miss it.
