I can't say as I ever really thought of the shoreline areas as "beaches" . . .

Madison's "beaches" tend to be kind of gross with all of the stormwater runoff into the lakes, they make for a algae breeding ground. Then you have bird feces (ducks)...so it isn't that enjoyable. I suppose the parked along the lakes are nice for the views though...

I would never swim in or let my child swim in a Madison lake. Heck Devils Lake is a maybe, but as good as you can get around here for a lake to swim in.

I disagree with some of the above posts...I think Madison beaches are pretty nice, but maybe I'm not too bothered by slightly murky waters / lake plants...I like swimming too much My favorites are:

1. BB Clarke (for the diving board!)
2. Vilas
3. Tenney
4. Picnic Point
