^^^^^^^^ I don't understand it myself, and like I say I was born and raised here. Yes there are different races here, yes the younger generation, my kids included, now young adults, were more accepting of different races but (when some of the same ole problems cropped up) they found out there is still separation going on and they themselves under certain situations, adopted old sterotypical attitudes.
Now if this cultural experience is related to the UW and/or any clubs, special activities this city offers that's one thing. To act though, as if there is some special experience to be had here and that everyone is walking around in perfect harmony, I'm just not getting that. It's really coming across as disingenuous to me and I'm not sure what the agenda or purpose is.
Culturally speaking the only thing I can think of is the old "Greenbush" neighborhood and that is long gone.

Small town -v- Big City, appeals to two different kind of people. In Milwaukee if you are the small town type of person you can also get that feel from one of Milwaukee many suburbs(outlying). But in Madison its small town feel and college town feel are your only choices. You can't feel like your in a big city when you looking over a 10 story building in Madison as the biggest building.

I think we are better known than Milwaukee though, with a "better" rep, which is subjective.
