My family is considering a move from the SF Bay Area to Madison (yes we know what the winters are like as we are both from cold climates originally) but are wondering what the differences are between University Heights/Regent, Dudgeon Monroe and Vilas as these are the neighborhoods where we are looking to put down some roots to be closer to family. We have one son who is still preschool age but schools will be an issue sooner rather than later. Having access to conveniences like grocery stores, transit, bike paths, shopping, etc are very important as we plan to have just one car and are used to lots of walking.

I don't mind seeing college students but obviously don't want to have keg parties in our backyard

Thanks in advance!

All three are great neighborhoods that share the same schools - Franklin/Randall, Hamilton (middle school) and West high. All of the schools are excellent. All three neighborhoods are adjacent to each other. I would pick Vilas or Dudgeon as it is closer to shopping - Monroe Street, Trader Joe's etc. There are college students in all three but choose a place a bit removed and there should be no problems.

I like the houses in U Heights and Vilas better than Dudgeon but homes in Dudgeon are great too.

Good luck!
