We're relocating to Madison from St. Paul and have had an apartment in Monona for the past 3 months. We've spent a lot of time looking around the Madison area at neighborhoods. Because of work, we need to be on the west side. The problem is we really like Monona. It's a really nice suburb with smaller, local businesses. We absolutely love the Winnequah park area. It has everything we're looking for (neighborhood pool and community center, playgrounds, baseball fields, basketball, soccer, skateboard park, tennis, library). It's seems like an idyllic place where I can set my kids free on a summer day and tell them to come home for dinner. Is there a community/park like this on the west side? We also spent some time in downtown Middleton and really like that area with the older homes and the community pool/arts center nearby. Does anyone have suggestions for neighborhoods on the west side that have parks with lots of amenities like Winnequah has in Monona? Thanks for your help!

my first thought would have been Elver Park as it has quite a few amenities. BUT, the areas nearby have some serious crime and safety concerns. And if it was me, I wouldn't feel comfortable letting my child run free there anymore.
You may be better off searching parks and neighborhoods in Middleton and Verona, unless there's something closer in Madison's near west side such as the Shorewood area that others here may be able to suggest for you.

We live in downtown Middleton with our young kids and love it. Everything is nearby. It might be a bit more "urban" and busier than Monona, but everything is within walking distance - schools, library, pool, parks, restaurants, bike paths, etc.

Depending on where your job is located, you may wish to just stay in Monona. As you have observed, it's a very nice established community right in the middle of the Madison metro, and housing prices there are generally more reasonable in Monona than in West side locations like Middleton and Verona.

Default Good place for posting housing openings

Hello all,

I'm wondering if there is a good place to post room openings for grad/post grad students in particular? I have a room in my house for rent in Monona and was hoping to post it to the UW site, but can't seem to figure our where to go.
