Looking to buy a home here in Madison. I've been eyeing a place in the very south part of Maple Bluff (which I know is a very nice, expensive neighborhood) near Sherman Terrace. It's in my price range but really don't know much about the good/bad areas of the east side. Is that a good area? It certainly seems like it. I like the distance to downtown and I saw new construction going up around there. I just don't know about the east side of Madison at all. I lived on the West side for a few years in graduate school so I'm more familiar with that.

Also, what are areas I should avoid if I decide I still want to look on the east side but not live in this particular place?

Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

I don't know t he area intimately but it always seems like a nice neighborhood with good access to anything except far west side, of course. I don't know if you want to be right up next to the rail yard there, but otherwise if the house is priced right, I don't know how you can go too far wrong.

That area is fine. You'd need to get much closer to Northport (which is not all that bad), or the Darbo/Worthington area, to really worry about bad neighborhoods.
