Moving to Madison from Minneapolis/Milwaukee
Hi,
My family is moving to Madison from Minneapolis. We are originally from Milwaukee. I'm interested in neighborhoods in either Madison or the inner-ring suburbs, but especially in Madison. Basically, we are looking to rent a house that is no more than a half hour bike ride from the Capitol area (I'll be working there), near a natural foods store (we're vegetarians) and other small businesses (especially non-Western "ethnic" restaurants), in a neighborhood that has other families with small children, quiet, and walkable (to the extent that exists in the Midwest). Ideally, the neighborhood would have nice old trees and be near water, but that's not essential by any means. We're "liberal" in the very broad sense of the word (I prefer the term independent), but I have no problem living near more conservative folk
I've heard and read much about Vilas, Dudgeon-Monroe, and Atwood-Schenk, and I'm interested in hearing more about other neighborhoods and those neighborhoods. I'm going to reference a number of neighborhoods in Milwaukee and Minneapolis for anyone else on this board who has lived in Madison and/or Minneapolis/Milwaukee. In Minneapolis, we love the neighborhoods near the Mississippi River (e.g. Longfellow and Seward), and the Linden Hills neighborhood (kind of pricey). In Milwaukee, we really only like the East Side (NOT including Riverwest), especially the areas near UW-Milwaukee. So those are the kind of neighborhoods we are looking for. So if anyone has recommendations and can reference the non-Madison neighborhoods, that would be awesome. Additionally, some sense of cost and how many/how rowdy students are in certain neighborhoods would be quite useful as well.
Thanks in advance.
