Hi there,

I've always been under the impression that Madison does not have limit on the number of pets you can have. I just looked over the city ordinances and found nothing to contradict that. Does anyone know if this is actually the case?

We were told there were no restrictions in the city, when we inquired about a neighbor who had 4 howling Beagles. I couldn't believe it.

There is an ordinance about barking dogs, however. 4 beagles would be unbearable if no efforts had been made to train them to settle down. Nice dogs, but hyper and they are a "baying breed" which means the "developers" of the breed actually selected for loud dogs. I feel your pain....

Thanks for the speedy reply, btw.

Yes, and I can't believe I have never formally complained. I believe it has to be a long period of constant barking and you would have to log it all.

What makes it worse is these people are complete pigs with their lawn care. I had thought of reporting them for the "SOS" stories in the Journal but haven't had the heart to actually do it. Nope we just stuck up a 6 foot fence and complained to them directly somewhat, whatever good that has done. That and after our occasional barking Golden passed, I got 2 little yappers that put up a good bark fest themselves, but I certainly don't let it get out of hand.

At any rate we are in the market for a new house and I hope to never encounter another 4 beagle household.

BTW why do you ask about the limit?

I was checking because I wanted to know if I was within the limit. I might have to move from Madison and have been checking out nearby communities. All have fairly strict limits. It started me worrying that Madison might actually have limits and that I was misinformed.
